Indications: Chest pain that paramedics believe is of cardiac origin
Contraindications:
- Aspirin allergy
- Aspirin-induced asthma
Precautions: Any significant bleeding
Side Effects: None for pre-hospital
Adult Dose:
- One (325 mg) adult aspirin or four (81 mg) baby aspirin - standing order, regardless of whether the patient has taken any aspirin within the previous 24 hours.
Pediatric Dose:
BIOTEL AUTHORIZATION ONLY
Not normally given to pediatric patients by EMS
Route: Orally (chewed)
Drug Action:
- Reduces platelet stickiness
- Blocks pain impulses in the CNS
- Reduces coronary artery vasoconstriction
Class: Anti-platelet aggregator, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic
Onset: 15 - 30 Minutes
Duration: 4 - 6 hours
