EKG #10 Interpretation

This is an 18 year-old male c/o s.o.b.

Rate: 91

Rhythm: Rhythm is regular

P Waves: Not visible

P - R Interval (PRI): since there are no visible P waves, the PRI isn't measureable

QRS Complex: Greater than 0.12 seconds

S - T segment: Within normal limits, considering what's driving the ventricles

T wave: Within normal limits, considering what's driving the ventricles

Diagnosis: Single chamber ventricular pacemaker. Each pacer spike is followed by a QRS complex

Since this is a pacemaker rhythm, there are several additional considerations:

  1. Does each spike capture? In this case, they appear to be captured.
  2. Is the rate reasonable? Since this rate is about 91, yes
  3. Are the spikes competing with the patients underlying rhythm? Since it doesn't appear that the patient has an underlying rhythm, no
  4. Is the pacemaker functioning consistently and reliably? Seems to be.

This patient is awaiting a heart transplant.
